DELIGHTFUL PRAYER
DELIGHTFUL PRAYER
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:n NIV
In this psalm, many prayers are answered, yet the word prayer is never mentioned, You are told to "commit" to "wait, to "delight in" the Lord, and then He will give you "the desires of your heart". But the word pray is nowhere to be found.
How many things do you actually "delight in'--not just enjoy, but delight in? There probably aren't many, And how many other things must you avoid delighting in if you are truly to delight in the Lord?
All of them. Psalm 37 treats this process of shedding all delights other than Yahweh Himself as the process of prayer. How do you know? Because it's the commitment to the Lord, the delighting in, the waiting for, that is answered.
Prayer is the devotion to Jesus that strengthens your reborn spirit. Prayer is the expression of desire for God to work His will. The child's eyes are on his Father. He loves what his Father loves, delights in what his Father delights in. That process in prayer.
God, help me to delight myself in You first and foremost. Let my heart be enraptured by Your presence. Let all my other desires be fleeting shadows by comparison.
